Mattress Care:
How to Rotate Your Mattress
Keeping your mattress in top shape is easy with a bit of regular care. Here's how to do it properly.
1. Strip the bed
Remove all sheets, pillows and anything else sitting on top of the mattress.
2. Work out what type you've got
Not all mattresses are rotated the same way:
- One-sided (has a pillow top): just needs a 180° turn, head to foot. No flipping required.
- Two-sided (no pillow top): rotate 180° and flip it over, so the top and bottom swap as well as head and foot.
3. Grab a hand
Mattresses are bulky and awkward solo. Get someone to help you lift and turn it to avoid any strain (or damage to the mattress).
4. Reposition it properly
Once it's turned, make sure it's sitting squarely on your bed frame or base before making the bed back up.
5. Remake the bed
Fresh sheets on, and you're done!
Why rotate your mattress?
Rotating every 3–6 months helps spread out wear evenly, so you avoid sagging or body impressions forming in the same spot over time.
